Semi Finals 26/4/08

What an absolutely fantastic performance from the lads as they came away from Hertfordshire, who were the favourites with an amazing 4-0 win to reach the 2008 NACYP GILLETTE CUP FINAL on SUNDAY MAY 18th at Meadow Lane, home of Notts County. They result was even more powerful after a 6hr treck to Radlett after some of the lads had played for their county schools side the night before.

Northumberland began at a frantic pace with DAN LANDSBURY finishing smartly from the edge of the box inside two minutes. It was to get even better when two further strikes from DAN gave him his hat-trick as the lads went in 3-0 up at half time. The second half was a tighter affair and Hertfordshire came close but it was left to GRANT PATTERSON to seal the win with a near post header in the last minute. Every single player deserves credit for this run, POTM on the day was ANDREW CHARLTON.

Quarter Finals

The lads just keep going on with this fantastic run as they won their Quarter Final match against Cardiff at McKendric Villas, home to Pinpoint Cowgate. The 2-0 victory was courtesy of goals from Mark Cullen & Kyle Oliver. The lads now move on to play away to either Cheshire or Hertfordshire for a place in the national final.

Play-Off

This set up a mouthwatering game on Thursday 28th Feb at Harton & Westoe Colliery welfare ground. The scoring was opened by Mark Cullen who broke free of the centre-half and placed an excellent shot past the Durham keeper to send us in 1-0 up at half time.

They began the second half in much the same way as the first but when Durham put them under pressure they were superbly marshalled by Matthew Scott and Matthew Speedie. The goal of the game came at the half way point in the second half when Mark Cullen was again released on the left side and he crashed a great shot across the Durham goalkeeper and into the far corner to make it 2-0. Ten minutes later and it was all over when Michael Crame converted from close range following a corner. Durham then gained a consolation goal from a bit of sloppy defending by Northumberland and that made the final score 3-1.

Round Robin

The NABC representative Under 16s played host of the Northern round of the CYP Gillette cup on Saturday 16th February at McKendric Villas, Cowgate. Thanks to Pinpoint Cowgate for their tremendous support and facilities by the way!

In the round robin format our U16s produced two great displays starting with a fine 7-0 win over Lancashire, they followed this up with a hard fought 3-0 win over Cumbria. The other games saw Durham win 5-0 against Cumbria and 11-0 against Lancashire.
